Finding Balance: Skills for Handling Stress & Emotions at University
University life can be overwhelming at times, but you don鈥檛 have to go it alone. Join us for Finding Balance, where you鈥檒l learn practical skills to manage stress, stay calm under pressure, and handle your emotions with confidence.
Whether you're facing looming deadlines, the pressure of exams, or everyday life challenges, this group provides the tools to help you stay balanced and focused, enabling you to thrive both academically and personally. Rooted in the principles of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Finding Balance focuses on skills that enhance emotional regulation and self-awareness.
You鈥檒l gain essential tools to manage emotional distress, maintain composure in high-pressure situations, and respond effectively to life鈥檚 demands. By discovering how small shifts in your approach can make a big difference, you鈥檒l build a solid foundation for mental well-being and academic success.
This small group of up to 12 people will meet on Tuesday mornings: 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th August. By signing up, you're committing to attend all four sessions.
To register for this workshop, please .
Finding Balance is facilitated by two counsellors - Sophie and Qianwen at the ANU Counselling Centre. Both are AASW Accredited Mental Health Social Workers and are passionate about supporting students from all backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences. More information on the counsellors can be found here.
If this sounds like the support you鈥檝e been looking for, we鈥檇 love to hear from you. You can express your interest via email and one of the team will be in contact to talk to you about whether this is the right group for you.
ADHD Skills Group - Information Session
For information about what is involved and to receive details about how to register for our upcoming ADHD Skills Group please register to attend one of the following two information sessions:
The information sessions will be at 10am on:
Thursday 24 July (Week 1)
Thursday 31 July (Week 2)
Before registering to attend an information session please check that you are available to attend the actual ADHD Skills Group which will be held on Thursdays at 10am-12pm on 7, 14, 21 and 28 August.
Attendance at one of the information sessions is a pre-requisite for attending the actual Group. At the information session you will be given a brief outline of the topics that will be covered and how the group will be run and associated expectations. Then, if you鈥檙e still able and willing to commit to the group, you鈥檒l be given details about how to register via our online process. This is in order to encourage commitment and attendance and to maintain a mutually supportive space. It will also ensure that all participants can benefit from the skills being covered in each session.
These sessions and the Group will be held only in-person.
