30 Apr 2025

GTVÄÐͬ the Consultation

Critical to the success of Renew ANU is strengthening the University's long-term sustainability. To achieve this, the University will continue to focus on refining the University’s operating model—the combination of people, roles, structures, processes, and technology that underpins how we deliver value. This approach to University-wide improvement builds on the realignment activities completed in 2024. It is comprehensive and includes consideration of each service, academic activity and research activity to determine how best to deliver long-term financial sustainability.

ANU/NTEU Fair Work outcome

On Tuesday 29 April the University participated in a conference before the Fair Work Commission to seek to resolve the dispute lodged by the NTEU in relation to Renew ANU 2025.

The Commissioner supported both parties in reaching a resolution to the dispute, which has been resolved, and the Commission issued a reflecting that resolution.

The key points agreed upon align with and confirm the commitments the University had already made in the Renew ANU 2025 Change Principles Implementation Plan. It is reassuring to have these points confirmed.

Following on from the session yesterday, the University provides its staff the following information:

  1. High-level information about the outcomes of the University's Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) process; and
  2. High-level information that the University is able to provide to the extent that it has been authorised by the Government to do so.

The University has committed to:

  1. Extending the date for feedback on the Implementation Plan, from 2 May to 9 May 2025. Any further feedback on the Change Proposal and Implementation Plan arising from the information provided above can also be provided by this date.
  2. Continuing to take into account and genuinely considering any feedback received in respect of the Change Proposals and the Implementation Plan. If this results in any changes to the Implementation Plan, staff and the NTEU will be notified in writing;
  3. Adhering to its commitments regarding the development and consultation of future change proposals as outlined in Section 6 of the Implementation Plan. Any proposed changes that are developed that are likely to have a significant impact on staff will be the subject of further formal change proposals and consultation in accordance with clause 70 of the Australian National University Enterprise Agreement 2023-2026); and
  4. Those future change proposals will be available to all staff (and their representatives) who will have the opportunity to provide feedback and consult in respect of any such change proposals.

The key takeaway from the Fair Work Commission conference yesterday is that feedback on the has been extended until close of business on Friday 9 May 2025.
