When humanity is shaken to its core, what do we do? Discussing academics’ engagement with the war in Gaza and other conflicts

Presented by ANU College of Law, Governance & Policy

With several colleagues at the ANU who have shared their thoughts on Gaza in the media, this conversation will discuss the role of academics and the academia in addressing global conflicts.

While a ceasefire agreement in Gaza has been recently signed, many people on the ground continue to suffer from displacement, war trauma, and damage to critical infrastructures. The war in Gaza, along with numerous ongoing conflicts around the world, continue to be the biggest contributors to social injustice, adverse health outcomes, human rights violations, and global instability. However, considering the local and global impacts of the war in Gaza, there is a pressing need to discussing our role as academics in these issues.

We will be joined by and  who have shared their thoughts on Gaza in the media, to discuss openly and respectfully our role in these issues. We will explore opportunities to instigate change, challenges with voicing our perspectives, and potential impacts of activist stances on academic careers and collegial relations.
